For TENCUE, the challenge was clear: how do we transform an empty pier venue into a compelling, inclusive, and experiential space using inexpensive and unconventional materials? The goal was to tell a powerful story about the impact of connected, global philanthropy, all within a limited budget.
Our Solution
To tackle this challenge, TENCUE’s expert event production team embarked on a journey of creativity and innovation. The solution was not just about transforming a space but about crafting an immersive experience that resonated with the audience and stayed true to the client’s vision.
1. Conceptualization and Brainstorming
The first step was extensive brainstorming. The team explored various ideas and materials that could be used within the constraints of the budget. It was during this phase that the concept of using shipping containers emerged. Shipping containers, which are inexpensive, locally sourced, and available in various vibrant colors, offered the perfect solution. They were not only cost-effective but also provided the flexibility needed to create distinct spaces within the open floorplan of the pier venue.
2. Designing the Space
Using the shipping containers as a jumping off point, the next step was to design the space. The containers were strategically placed to create different, distinct zones within the venue. Each container was repurposed to serve a specific function:
- Keynote Space: A stack of large shipping containers acted as the backdrop to the mainstage, transforming the area into a keynote space where speakers could present to a large audience. This space was designed to be both visually appealing and acoustically sound, ensuring that every attendee could engage fully with the presentations.
- Breakout Sessions: Additional containers were used to create intimate breakout session areas. These spaces allowed for focused discussions and interactive workshops, providing a variety of experiences for attendees.
- Mini-Museum: One container was dedicated to creating a mini-museum space. This area featured exhibits that told the story of the power of connected, global philanthropy. By incorporating interactive elements and multimedia displays, the mini-museum engaged attendees in a meaningful and impactful way.
3. Execution and Implementation
Once the design was finalized, the next phase was execution. The TENCUE team worked diligently to bring the vision to life. The shipping containers were sourced locally and brought to the venue. Each container was customized to fit its specific purpose, ensuring that every detail was meticulously planned and executed.
